About Us Our Mission Our Activities altback to Italian

In keeping with its mission, Fondazione Cittalia supports ANCI both in defining the priorities on the political agenda and in activities of institutional representation, offering a specific and original point of view on public policy-making: that of the Italian cities.
Cittalia’s activities concentrate on:

  •
  •     Producing and spreading a new culture of the city and the role of urban policy-making in the country’s competitive growth;
  •
  •     Undertaking interdisciplinary research, medium to long-term analysis and providing national and international benchmarking;
  •
  •     Producing and spreading competitive knowledge and first hand understanding of local Public Administration, supplying services for top management in local institutions;
  •
  •     Establishing a network of city experts already working in the public and private sectors, able to feed into the scientific debate;

    Providing a centre of documentation on urban policy-making themes.

These activities are carried out through a series of products and services:

  •
  •     Analysis. Interdisciplinary research focused on the different subjects concerning cities, carried out by academic and institutional experts aimed at satisfying local administration’s demand for knowledge. The research also covers a general overview identifying and analysing the requisite competences of municipal administrators, managers and civil servants.
  •
  •     Proposals. Suggestions for policy-making and innovative tools related to the specific themes that ANCI champions within the municipal sphere, in its guise as representative of municipal administrations. Moreover, it offers proposals originating from the comparison between the institutional, academic and business worlds, which can provide effective support for policy-making.
  •
  •     Paper. Studies that summarise knowledge, generate reflection and identify possible models of intervention with economic and social costings and prospects in both the short and long-term.
  •
  •     Surveys. The collection and analysis of data related to the awareness citizens, administrators and/or municipal civil servants have about specific subjects and administration models for urban areas.
  •
  •     Knowledge-development. A network aimed at developing the managerial skills of executives and civil servants working in institutions and local government, to bring to the fore the most pressing critical factors affecting cities’ processes of development, the services supplied and proposing the most innovative and effective solutions to adopt. Knowledge-work is undertaken in various ways: study workshops and exchanges of experience.
  •
  •     Dossier. Collection of the latest documentation, regulations, analysis, publications and in-depth research provided with comments regarding specific themes.
  •
  •     Viewpoints. Multi-subject debates in the form of seminars and conferences aimed at feeding into and promoting the processes of innovation within the urban question. Using a systemic and cross-sector approach, the objective is to sustain the debate on the main problems affecting cities, likewise supplying support in the elaboration of public policy-making, as seen from the specific and original “point of view” of the Italian cities.
